Networking Event Provides Students with Opportunity to Learn from Supply Chain Management Professionals

The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) San Diego/Baja Roundtable hosted an innovative networking event for students and young professionals interested in careers in the supply chain management field. CSCMP is the leading worldwide professional association dedicated to education, research, and the advancement of the supply chain management profession. The event, titled “The Power of Networking”, was held at ViaSat Headquarters in Carlsbad and combined the concepts of networking and speed dating. The event venue was set up with multiple tables, each featuring a supply chain management professional from various well-known local companies, including Bumble Bee, DJO Global, Waxie Sanitary Supply, ViaSat, Taylor Guitar, Stone Brewing, Dexcom, and TaylorMade. The company representatives facilitated brief discussions at their tables with small groups of participants, with the participants rotating to another table every 10 minutes. As part of the discussions with each group, the company representative provided an overview of their work experience and discussed career advice and growth opportunities in the industry. These interactions provided a great opportunity for participants to not only meet potential future employers, but also learn what it takes to be successful in this field.

The San Diego CITD and DSN for Global Trade and Logistics (DSNGTL) was the premier sponsor for the event. CITD Director and DSNGTL, Victor Castillo, and CITD International Trade Specialist, Monica Rosas, participated in the event and had the opportunity to talk with the company representatives and students about the work the CITD/DSNGTL is doing to develop career pathways in global trade, logistics, and supply chain management.

The CSCMP San Diego / Baja Roundtable announced they are planning additional events in the near future including a Joint Dinner and Panel Discussion with other supply chain management professional groups (APICS and ISM) on April 19, 2017. For more information, go to
